Steve Jobs on Conspiracy
It's an old quote from Steve Jobs (1996, imho) but in the light of current events, it still seems very relevant:
"When you're young, you look at television and think, There's a conspiracy. The networks have conspired to dumb us down. But when you get a little older, you realize that's not true. The networks are in business to give people exactly what they want. That's a far more depressing thought. Conspiracy is optimistic! You can shoot the bastards! We can have a revolution! But the networks are really in business to give people what they want. It's the truth."
:-)

actually no
No the networks are not in business to give people what they want. They are in business to give shareholders and corporate interests what they want, which is $$$. Show me a network that's not in busines to make money (ie non-profit) and then maybe the claim will be valid.
True, but you are not contradicting
True, but you are not contradicting Steve.
Most everything and anything in this world is about money, including networks. But how do networks make money? Through ad revenue, mostly. Where do advertisers place ads? In most popular TV programs and shows. So, even though the primary goal is revenue (money), the means of achieving it is to run popular programs - the ones with a lot of viewers.
That is how and why both your and Steve's points are valid, imho.
